A Trip in Fall

Another Year.

My blogging habits have atrophied, but I hope to re-enliven them once more. Broadband at home and an initial posting from being (very briefly) on the road again will hopefully kickstart the process. Or else - until next year!!

I walked quickly into the cold water believing one swift move would be better than inching my way in and perhaps getting stuck at thigh level. Frozen to the spot!! After a gasp and a minute of having to catch my breath the water quicky felt very pleasant and we swam around the very fringes of the largest (surface) area of freshwater on the earth. (I will make it to Lake Baikal one day - the largest freshwater lake). The north shore of Lake Superior in early fall (as one must call it here) where some of the leaves are starting to age and die in a splendid final burst of abundant colour. You come out feeling exceptionally clean. It's like swimming in the ocean, but without the salt. Quite beautiful.

We camped in the clearing of a birch close where the trees over a campfire pointed us up towards an opening framing the bright stars. Fire gazing, red wine, good whiskey and stories of life and its paranormal fringes. Walks along a beautiful shore, rock hunting, stone skimming, photos and friendship. Fulfillment of a long anticipated experience - camping in the north.
